Event called “Think Different - more Exact!”at Āgenskalns State Gymnasium
On 9 March 2010, an event for students called “Think Different - more Exact!” took place at Āgenskalns State Gymnasium in order to promote interest in natural sciences and mathematics. This event was held in response to another event called “Think Different - more Exact!” organized for Latvian students on 3 and 4 February 2010 by the team of the Project “Natural Sciences and Mathematics”. Students from Āgenskalns State Gymnasium also participated in the latter event. The aim of the event was to stimulate students’ interest in natural sciences and mathematics by showing the ways how to make use of the knowledge obtained at school in scientific inquiry and innovative entrepreneurship.
The event at Āgenskalns State Gymnasium was also attended by the Project experts that approved of the students work. Students had prepared experiments in chemistry and physics by using different household objects. The students of upper-secondary level performed experiments in front of the students of grades 7 through 9 and invited them to participate. The event was enriched by meeting the former students of Āgenskalns State Gymnasium, now – the 3rd year students at Rīga Stradiņš University. They shared their experience of using knowledge and skills obtained during biology lessons at school in their studies and encouraged students to actively learn natural sciences.
