Teachers approve of the in-service training course programme
The first seminar related to the curriculum approbation of the 36-lesson in-service training course developed within the framework of the Project took place on 19 March 2010. The aim of the course is to provide teachers with the methodological support necessary for teaching biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry in grades 7 through 9. Curriculum approbation was started by teachers of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics working at support schools and the overall evaluation of the course curriculum was positive.
Teachers considered the course as a positive exchange of experience among colleagues and a good way to improve their teaching skills and indicated that during the course “time flew”. They also thought that the lessons about the teaching system in a subject – what and why we teach, how to give students a good understanding about the basic matters in the subject – was a very important and topical innovation in the course curriculum. “A very good discussion about what should/should not be taught in mathematics to elementary school students. Valuable information about the ways of developing different skills, in particular digital and communication skills,” a mathematics teacher said after the seminar.
Starting from August, the course will be available to all teachers who teach biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics in grades 7 through 12 and have attended the 72-lesson training course organized by the team of the Project “Curriculum Development and In-service Training of Teachers in Science, Mathematics and Technology”.
For further information about the course, please refer to the section “For teachers” on the Project homepage: www.dzm.lv. Teachers can apply to the course individually by filling in the registration form in this section.
