Welcome to open lectures!
In the framework of science and mathematics week “Think Differently – be More in Science and Mathematics!” everyone is kindly asked to participate in open lectures taking place on August 17 in the University of Latvia, Raiņa bulv. 19:
Lecture “How to teach thinking skills?”

Everything about thinking – cooperation in order to support those who are learning.
Guest lecturer will talk about different approaches to be used by teachers in order to organize the teaching-learning process in such a way that students obtain thinking skills and learn how to use and apply the acquainted information thus becoming independent and determined in obtaining new knowledge.
Faye Brownlie is a guest lecturer from Canada and has a wide international experience in teacher in-service training. She is also a co-author of several books for teachers. She has visited Latvia many times.
The lecture will be held in English and interpreted into Latvian.

Lecture “How to facilitate creativity of students during lessons of mathematics?”

Mathematics must be understandable to everyone!
Guest lecturer will use unconventional tasks of mathematics and will talk about an approach to be used by teachers in order to facilitate creativity of talented students and also of students with lower achievements.
Ronnie Karsenty is a guest lecturer from Israel and has an international experience in teacher in-service training. She is known for her alternative approach to teaching of mathematics and for the good results of her work with students with low achievements. In Israel she is a head of a programme intended for improvement of students' results in mathematics (Programme „Advancing low achievers in mathematics”, Davidson Institute of Science Education A.R).
The lecture will be held in English and interpreted into Latvian.
